We like describing Sferracavallo as “a little Sicily” : a perfect combination for those who love a holiday with sea, nature and breathtaking scenery as well as for tireless lovers of history, art and culture – as it is less than 15 km from the centre of the gorgeous city of Palermo, which can be easily reached by car or by train from the Palermo/Sferracavallo station, a 15-minute walk away.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, Sferracavallo lies around an enchanting gulf bordered by the imposing promontory of Capo Gallo. It is included in the Capo Gallo/Isola delle Femmine natural marine protected area, and it is the ideal place for snorkelling along the rocky coastline characterised by ‘vermeti trottoir’, typical Mediterranean Sea biostructures resembling in some ways the coral reef. In the evening, the promenade is transformed into a magical place where you can admire breathtaking sunsets with views of the Isolotto delle Femmine, a small isle which gives its name to the bordering village of Isola delle Femmine. As well as Mondello and its enchanting beach, Isola delle Femmine is a 10-minute-drive from Sferracavallo and a good alternative for lovers of sandy beaches.
The Oriented Nature Reserve of Capo Gallo, a place of extraordinary natural beauty as well as a site of archaeological and palaeontological importance, is within walking distance from our holiday house. There is easy and quick access to the coastal path with stunning views of the coastline.
Sferracavallo is home to wonderful nature and – last but not least – delicious food: it is in fact known for its renowned fish restaurants and the street food area in Piazza Marina offering seafood delicacies and local specialities for all budgets! In Sferracavallo you can also enjoy what we consider the yummiest ice cream and granita in all of Palermo. We will be glad to share our tips if you make a reservation.
